Usage of Different Forklift Types

Different Forklift Types

For narrow aisles in warehouses where space is limited, the reach truck is an ideal choice. It is equipped with supporting legs, and its forks can extend forward and backward, allowing it to operate in narrow passages that counterbalance forklifts cannot access. With a high lifting height and a small turning radius, the reach truck is mainly used for high-level stacking of goods, effectively utilizing the vertical space of the warehouse and improving storage capacity.
When it comes to short-distance horizontal transport of pallets on flat ground, pallet jacks are widely used. The hand pallet truck, with its simple structure and no stacking function, is suitable for light-load and short-distance handling tasks, requiring manual operation to push and lift. In contrast, the electric pallet truck is motor-driven, which greatly reduces labor intensity and improves work efficiency. It is especially suitable for warehouses with a large flow of goods, where frequent pallet handling is needed.
Stackers, including manual and electric models, are designed specifically for lifting and stacking pallets at medium heights. They are small in size and flexible in movement, making them suitable for small warehouses or workshops with limited space. Unlike counterbalance forklifts, stackers have a more compact structure, allowing them to operate in narrow areas while completing basic stacking and lifting tasks.
For scenarios that require picking goods from multi-tier shelves, such as e-commerce warehouses, the order picker is the most appropriate equipment. The operator can lift together with the forks to reach different levels of shelves, directly picking goods from the shelves and placing them on the forks, which significantly improves the efficiency of order picking and reduces the labor of manual handling.
The side loader is a special type of forklift with forks installed on the side rather than the front. This unique design makes it suitable for handling long materials such as steel, pipes, and profiles, which are difficult to handle with ordinary forklifts. By lifting goods from the side, the side loader can avoid damage to the materials and ensure stable handling. In unpaved, rough ground or construction sites, the rough terrain forklift plays an irreplaceable role. Equipped with four-wheel drive, it has strong off-road capability and can adapt to harsh working environments such as muddy roads and uneven ground, making it suitable for material handling in construction sites, mines, and outdoor yards with poor road conditions. The telescopic forklift is characterized by its telescopic boom, which provides a long working radius and high lifting height. It combines the functions of a forklift and a crane, able to lift goods to high positions or reach goods in remote areas, and can even replace cranes in some light-load scenarios, making it widely used in construction, logistics, and other fields.
In addition, there is a special type of forklift designed for handling oil drums—the drum stacker, also known as the oil drum handler. It is specially used for handling, lifting, and stacking steel or plastic oil drums, with clamp or hook-type structures to firmly grip the drums, ensuring safe and efficient handling of oil drums in industrial production and logistics. In summary, each type of forklift has its own unique advantages and applicable scenarios. Choosing the right forklift type according to the working environment, goods characteristics, and operational needs can maximize work efficiency, reduce operational costs, and ensure the safety and smoothness of material handling work.
